TURN OFF THE PING

EXPANSION ON REASONS

OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE We have something called tritanopia. It’s a specific type of color blindness regimen that makes it extremely hard if not impossible to see certain shades of colors. We have a family history of epilepsy and have had multiple color triggered strokes/seizures in the past. The ping color is a specific shade of yellow WE personally are sensitive to. It has triggered seizures for us on multiple occasions. Pinging us is considered ableism. As we have a condition that is genuinely health compromising and with these pings, our health and life could be put in danger, we simply ask not to be pinged.

COLOR SENSITIVITY Color vision deficiency can result from a variety of abnormalities, both systemic and specifically within the visual system. Defects in the genes responsible for visual transduction often lead to congenital color vision deficits. Any abnormalities of the retina, optic nerve, optic tract, and visual cortex can cause defects in color vision. As such, systemic diseases like diabetes can alter color vision, as can eye-specific diseases like glaucoma and cataracts. Pinging somebody with color sensitivity can EASILY trigger a reaction or STROBE within them. Different people have different sensitivites and different levels of it. Please understand that some people NEED you to turn off the pings simply to make functioning on Discord a little easier for them.

OTHER !!

Some people just do not like pings. Whether it irritates, aggravates or just is disliked is not your business. You should exhibit enough decency and understanding to realize that people do not need to prove themselves to you. Compassion is the key to acceptance. Just because you are unaware of something does not mean you should put up a wall. That is willful ignorance.

Not only do people have the RIGHT to set boundaries with others, but they also have the right to feel comfortable on an online platform. Failure to understand that is a mistake on your part. If they have a condition it is seen as direct ableism. If they DO NOT have a condition, it is seen as disrespecting boundaries,

NOTES ☀

Do not be part of the problem. Do not PING! No means NO. Ask people if they are okay with pings.IF THEIR NAME SAYS (No @) (NO pings) (Only friends @) and other variations of that, respect the boundary. Don't be an ass.
